Breaking the Glass Ceiling

All of my life, I have had the belief that artists were cut from a different mold than the rest of society. It didn't matter whether they were potters, painters, fabric artists, or musicians. It always seemed that they were an inclusive group. A society within society in general. A group of people that embraced the differences of people.

Apparently I was wrong. It seems as though the male members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra didn't want Marin Alsop, a woman, as maestro. The board, thankfully, voted overwhelmingly for her appointment.

Congratulations are in order for Marin Alsop and to the board for breaking 'tradition'. Shame on the members of the orchestra. Shame. Shame. Shame.
